School me on compression releases
I just bought an 07 Ultra that has had some work done on the engine. I know it has aftermarket cams and adjustable pushrods. If it had compression releases, where would I find them and how do I use them?
Thanks for helping out an HD newb

Should be right next to your spark plug on each cylinder head. Looks like a little button that you push down before starting the engine. After the engine starts, the engine compression will make them pop back up. If you are not having any trouble starting your engine, you probably don't have them. I had them installed on my stage three big bore on my night train. Although the engine will start without them, it takes a huge strain off the starter and will prolong its life.

It sounds like the starter is having a tough time, sometimes. It's almost like the starter has a bad spot in it. Sometimes it fires right up, but other times, when the engine makes a few revolutions during start up, it sounds like the starter hangs up or something. It's hard to explain

Are you running a big bore kit? I'm talking about the manual compression releases that folks install when the go big bore

Sounds like maybe your engine might have needed them but they didn't install them. Hold on a few minutes and I will post a picture for you. Kinda weird this topic coming up. I just replaced my old compression releases Saturday. I had one that was sticking on me. Cheap as they have become, I went ahead and replaced them both. Waiting for my camera to charge up.

Heres the two I took out and if you can make them out, the new one installed. Instead of a blue cap it is black. Sorry for the blurry pics. Camera was not charged very well and it would not focus.

OK. I found them. Looks like I've been starting my new bike for the last day without using them. The bike sure cranks up a lot easier now!! LOL
