Default My Harley ticks.

My engine has a light ticking sound. It is not always there, but usually is. I changed the oil, went to high octane gas and it is still there. Is that normal? I had a few Hondas in the past that ticked and was told they all do that. Is that the same for Harleys?

Does it sound like it is coming from the front and left of the engine?

Does it sound like it is coming from the front and left side of the engine when you are riding it?

My Sporster did that and it turned out to be the Rocker arm hiting the cover. I loosened the cover just enough to move it and cranked it up and moved it around till it quit and retightened it. No trouble since. Hope yours is that simple. This was a loud Tic. sounded awful.

Miles, oil weight, stock lifters, etc. Might be normal wear-----could be more. HD's are somewhat noisy in the cam/lifter area. Especially if they have had cam work.

On most that I have been around, a slight ticking is normal. Usally like a small ping in the exhast. Mine has always had it but it doesn't change, it's always there. Never worse, never better. I talked with a HD Mechanic and he said it was a normal noise for the Twin cam motors and nothing to worry about.
