Ticks more if you used synthetic oil.

Maybe it's the sound of the time that's left on your warranty. When the alarm goes off, yer on yer own.

Could also be exhaust leak. Is it worse when warm or cold.

Does not do it at start up or idle. Just when motoring down the road. The local Harley guy thinks its a rocker noise which he said is common and nothing to worry about. It is not loud, just noticable.

You haven't stated which motor you have yet...

Twin Cams tend to have an intermittent ticking in the valve train, and by your description "...just noticable..." it is probably normal Twin Cam sound. I went through my entire valve train, when I first got it. Everyone said it was 'normal', I wasn't satisfied with that answer, so I changed out cam chains/sprockets and adjustable pushrods, then went to the SE Cam Support Plate Kit with Hydraulic Tensioners and High Output Oil Pump.

My 'ticking' was NOT normal, and I resolved it with what I mentioned above. If yours is 'just noticable', I'd guess (as stated above also) it is normal. If it's loud enough to give you a lot of concern, you might want to check into it further...

I have a carbed 88. The local dealer service guy said it is normal, but he said if I wanted to drop bye he would take it for a spin and see what he thinks. I will likely do that just for peace of mind.

I think you need new pipes if you can hear a ticking sound.
