Default Riding as stress relief

The MSF handbook has a section on how riding when you are distracted by stress is a bad idea. What they don't tell you is how when you hit the road and start focusing on the bike, the riding, and the hazards the causes of the stress fade away to nothing.

Been having some major parental issues the last couple of days. Today was spent riding around my area and it took it completely out of my awareness for that time. Wonderful!

Went to the dealer for a new front tire today ( it needed one bad and they are the only ones open on Sat) - ended up with new front brakes, rebuilt caliper, repacked bearings, and estimates for fork seals and a drive belt. The drive belt is going to be expensive there! May have to do that one myself.

Paying that dealer invoice would stress me out. Don't let that belt replacement stress you out.

Some how they must confuse stress with distraction. If I don't ride often my stress level climbs and I get very tired of BS quickly.

That's why you never see a motorcycle parked outside a Psychiatrist's Office!

I have a couple of riding 'loops' I take for stress relief. One is 20 miles and the other a bit under 50. I call them my 'stress' rides.

When I leave home I decide going down the driveway which one I'm taking. Then it's just me, my Harley, and the road.

My wife says she can tell which route I'm gonna take before I leave the house!!

I agree, going for a ride and letting all of days worries blow in the wind. Nothing feels better than rolling down the road and just enjoying the feeling of you and your motorcyle. When I get home I feel like that was to short of a ride, but we all have to come back to reality.

Lost my wife & soul mate of 30 plus years last September to cancer, I can’t imagine not being able to go for a ride.

If I only rode when I wasn't stressed, I would probably never ride!
