What does your company not understand that every motorcycle meets all the standards for the year that it was built?

They meet all emission and sound standards that EPA has. So they are the same as cars except less volume of emissions.

The 07 TC96 engine not only meet the 07 standards but also meet the 010 standards which apply now.

It is not necessary to meet emissions with a cat. It is just easier. About half of the 10's have them in all the makes. By 2016 when the harshest standards will kick in, all will need them and it may make water cooling necessary to have a viable motor.

There is no separate standard for cars/motorcycles. both must meet the same standard.

The answer to your question is "NO" they don't pollute more than cars or they could not be sold to operate on the US roads. Period.

Default Oxides of Nitrogen

In 2010 the new EPA Standards got tougher, included the new requirement to reduce the Oxides of Nitrogen and all the Harley's from 2010 on will have the catalytic converter in either the Headpipe "the baggers" or the easy to dump cats in the mufflers on the other Harley Models. Yes they have had cats on the CVO, Cali and Export models for awhile plus EPA Cams and leaning them out more and more.

Metric, no problem! They don't have a signature sound that sells the bikes and Cats on a water cooled engine is doable!

Cats on a Harley? Milwaukie we have a problem! Kills the signature sound and an air cooled engine don't like cats and having the AFR leaned out.

Will be some hot bikes especially baggers from 2010 on! Better get those aftermarket headpipes without the cat while you can boys and girls. Big brother ain't going to let you dump them cats long term!

Go here and read this and then make the idiots you work for do the same.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/co2.shtml

A gallon of gasoline will produce the exact same amount of CO2 no matter what type or how efficient of an engine you burn it in. It creates 19 lbs of CO2. So if you use less gasoline you produce less CO2 which is the big greenhouse gas everyone is claiming is causing global warming.

My company won't include motorcycles in the save energy program (van-pooling, biking, etc.) because they say we pollute so much.
Last week it was the same excuse with the state.

It's not after market pipes, just all motorcycles. They changed the law a few years ago to be more strict, but there's no recognition of how bikes save, and no help in getting people to look out.
MCN in the UK did a study that suggested motorcycles created 100,000 times LESS wear and damage to roads than transport trucks.

To sum up the articles in a synopsis, MC's pollute from 14 to 90% MORE than car/trucks. I am not a scientist, but that seems crazy. I guess we will have to put catalytic converters on them next. How lightweight are CC's for motorcycles?

tell your company to show you unbiased scientific proof that stock or even slitley modded motorcycles are not more effecient/enviromentally friendly then cars if the ycant then they have too give ya whatever your talking about.

I'm no expert, but ask your company - If motorcycles pollute more than cars, why is there no emissions testing required (except in Maricopa County, AZ) and why are they allowed in the "high occupancy" vehicle lanes? Those lanes are reserved for car pooling (more than one person) and alternative fuel capable vehicles.

Well with out a cat you produce more hydro carbon with out an egr system you produce more hydrocarbon and nox (oxides of nitrogen), but there is a direct connection between fuel economy and emmisions.

Your company is mixing apples and oranges. If the intent their program is to reduce energy use, then motorcycles are a great addition to the program. That's simple math, motorcycles are much more fuel efficient than the vast majority of cars on the road. They simply use less fuel in getting from Point A to Point B.

If their intent is to reduce emissions, well, motorcycles are dirtier than most late model cars. Cars have stricter standards, and have sophisticated catalytic converters. It's my understanding that cats on motorcycles (that require them) are much simpler. Most 49-state bikes didn't even require catalytic converters until the 2010 model year.
