Dirty air...Turbulence wiggle 87 Electra
#12
This has gotten a lot worse in the last 10 years because of all the wings, deflectors and fairings the trucks are using to get better fuel mileage. If you think a bike is bad,try it in a motorhome. The best thing you can do is not tense up and let it wiggle...it has gotten to the point where I know exactly what spots around the truck it happens...so it doesn't bother me anymore.

I can't even imagine someone thinking their bike shouldn't be doing this while running higher speeds in the draft of a Semi. But some have not ridden as long as I have.
If it's too much white knuckle time, do what I do and stick to the Two lane Highways. I only take short jaunts on the big slab because of the very same thing. I don't like it either. I have a choice, I can do either, I choose the asphalt dragon! It's a risk no matter where you are or when. But it is also a risk we choose to take.

I love this place! All this time I thought I was just being a pu$$ when I felt like that. Come to find out, I'm not the only one scared when that happens. Thanks for the post.

I always wiggle/wobble behind semi's, always have and bike type (cruisers anyway) never mattered. I always believed it was the big wind turbulence surrounding the windshield of the bike and "shaking."
I tend to hold back as far as reasonable then move left and accelerate hard past the truck.

I never hang near semis for that reason and for crap kicking up or the thought of one of their recap tires coming apart. I hang back and then accelerate past the semi when there is room. In addition to avoiding tires/crap I cut the crosswind much better while accelerating past them.

I like riding in the 'wake' of semi trucks...
I'll usually drop one arm to my knee, just so I look bad ***. When they come screaming up alongside especially. I just know the driver is watching to see how nervous I get as he/she passes. I maintain my speed and composure, thinking how much I must be pissing them off cuz it don't bother me a bit!
Last week, on the return trip from Virginia, I was caught in a bit of rain for almost 200 miles. Riding early morning, windshield covered in rain drops and fogged up from cool air, leaning to side with bike at about a 15° angle so I could see some part of the road in front. Face shield covered in rain drops and a little less fogged than the windshield. Man, I looked GOOD! LOL!
