Default Lost electrical power while riding

I was out for a short ride today, put maybe 40 miles on. All of a sudden my speedometer and odometer both went out. Check engine light came on also. I was able to make it home but it seems the charging system(?) is failing.
I'm hoping it's just time for a new battery...but I'm not well versed with these things. I have a battery tender on it now. Any one here with a similar experience?
I have a 2000 FLSTC. Thanx in advance for your replies.

Bought the bike back in Feb. so I'm not sure how old the battery is. I checked battery terminals and they look fine. Not even any corrosion or build-up.

Ok you checked the battery terminals and they look fine. Did you take a wrench and make sure they were in fact tight. Had that happen to me on canyon road, fortunately I was on a straight section. The pos. terminal had gotten loose although it didn't " look that way.

As stated before, check your battery and ground connections. Had something similar happen. Used a multimeter to check the battery when starting the engine...no juice from the battery to start, even thought lights would go on. Wound up being a bad cell in the battery; and replaced it with a new one.

put a meter on the battery itself if the leads are not loose. i had a battery that shorted internally once and had no charge at all.

My 2000 Rdking was doing the same thing. I check all cables, fuses, and even the tilt sensor. It ended up being the 50 amp fuse that is under the seat buried in the frame in front of the battery. I got my fuse at the local auto parts. Problem solved. South Texas heat trips auto reset fuses when they get hot.

I had the same thing happen to me after the battery tender pigtail was added. It was a loose connection on the battery.
