Default Changing Primary Seal – Looking for good online place to purchase from & any tips….

I have a very slow leak on my 2006 FXDI, right at the bottom of the Primary Seal, almost at the drain plug. It seems to be coming right from the seal, and is only a few drips a week, but very annoying. I am going to try and replace this seal, this will be my first project. Just looking for any tips, and possibly a good place to buy the actual seal online. Thanks in advance !

Part# - 60547-06 GASKET, PRIMARY COVER.

BTW - I found this at J&P cycles, looks fine, but again very new to this, and I don’t want to spend time and money only to be dealing with some bad dope.

There is a bolt tightening pattern. Make sure you use it.

often the leak is coming from the inner primary bearing seal. Many mistake this as the drain plug leaking cause the oil tends to drip from that location. This means you gotta pull the primary apart to remove the inner cover to stop the 2 drips a week leak. Be sure the leak is not coming from the inner bearing before changing the gasket and wasting your time.

Thanks, I read this somewhere else as well, I guess either way I need to get the primary gasket, maybe should just get the whole set ?

Best be sure.I thought I had a primary gasket leaking but after cleaning everything and looking after I rode awhile, turns out it was from the main and shift seal in the trans.Got that dang synthetic out of there and put regular gear oil back in it stoped leaking in a little while.

It says in the manual that the gasket must always be replaced if you remove it. (Not to quote the manual or anything ), as I know this can clearly make me look like an a$$.
gotta pull apart the primary to remove the rear primary cover The work is more consuming that just wiping up a couple of drops now and then. Guess I'm trying to say I would not worry about it too much, unless you want to tackle the workload involved in getting to the seal. So you know, if your elbow grease is not up to snuff, you could find you need an impact wrench to remove the compensator nut. Also need primary chain locking tool, snap ring pliers, and the gaskets. Then need seal puller and it is probably a good idea to replace the bearing as they are known issues on the 06 models. Lot of work for a couple drops of oil IMHO.

You could always switch over your primary to a belt. No more leaks!
