Default oh crap!!! bike let me down!

I took my bike to a shop I new and trusted they did a few things tires and primary chain adjment..... I was out riding 2 days later and out of no where I feel like the moter under a load................just all kinds of noise coming from primary. so to make a long story short They made the dam primary chain 2 tight! I got tools made it lose and got it over to harley where they were super nice and made a adjustment and never even charged me. I changed the oil looking for wear and found nothing oil was clean........I looked in there and saw a few pieces of the chain shoe thats about it. The bike runs fine and shifts great now that harley has the chain where it should be and I here no noise.......Im real upset over this could I have hurt the bike in the 60 miles I rode when it was over tight?

I wouldn't worry about it. The primary chain is now properly adjusted and all is right with the world.

No, don't worry. The primary chain is adjusted by a plastic part. The plastic part would be the only thing that really would show any wear at all and the plastic part is very cheap to buy. Your primary chain is good for many miles to come. Take care and ride safe out there!

If the bike is cold when it is adjusted it will tighten up when it warms up. You should have brought it back to the folks that did the service and they could have re-adjusted it and made it right with you.

It doesn't sound to me like the bike let you down. It sounds more like the shop that you knew and trusted let you down. Not sure I would go back to them. I would also tell them why I was taking my business elsewhere...managment can't fix bad mechanics if they don't know about them.

Learn how, and do it yourself. (Paying somebody to do minor adjustments and maintenance is just plain *** dumb).

You mentioned that the shoe had a few pieces missing from it.

You had better get down to the dealer and buy a new adjustment shoe before you start that thing again! I saw a bike at my local indy that had it's primary chain self destruct inside a primary because the shoe caught it. It was not pretty and was going to cost pretty much what the scooter was worth to fix. A new adjustment shoe can't cost too much.
