Question Anybody else here not into buying new?

Lately my wife and I have been thinking of getting a full-on touring bike and while out window shopping, I came to the conclusion that I just couldn't get into paying the high prices on new bikes.

Personally, I don't think that I could bring myself to buy a brand-spankin' new bike, for me it's got to be more of a "close to new" used bike at a very reasonable price.

I don't mean to say that anybody who buys new is nuts but I was wondering how many others on this forum refuse to buy new.

I'm a firm believer in buying used Harley's. And when I say used get one about 3-4 years old or newer, low mileage, and owned by an adult over 50. With that being said you probably will get a great bike. Cycletrader.com is in about all 50 states and is a great place to start looking. The new Harley twin cam engines are excellent and very very very few are lemons. Also when you buy used the first owner has already added some bling and pipes, and other goodies that you won't have to buy. I understand why people buy new cars and trucks, but Harley's?

If money was no object ...........

23k on a new tour bike plus a few grand AT LEAST tweaking it only to turn around and be in the hole $7,000 when its 3 mos old.

Or let somebody else take the hit and buy used.

But if I was loaded I would buy new and have it dealer ready the way i wanted it.

Cool

I thought about buying a used bike but I always buy a service contract, besides I put a lot of miles on them.....2003 Deuce bought new sold 4 years later 37,000, had a 2008 Heritage 18 months 32,600 miles. But don't get me wrong some folks buy them so they can say they have one and never ride them....I have seen lots of deals out there....plus I love the smell of new leather......

I like to pay cash and buy used. Was able to score a 2 year old Street Bob with 350 miles and I own it as opposed to the finance company. I just don't like owing money on anything.

I purchased my street bob new, first bike. Will probably not purchase new again and pay cash. Probably a Rk, or SG. It feels good not to have a bike payment had one for 18 months cant stand payments.

I never bought a new Harley. Although the new 2010 SG is tempting me. When I bought my 99 RK about 7 years ago I compared it against the new ones sitting on the showroom floor. Same frame, same engine, same everything except the new ones were $10K more. I couldn't justify the price difference.

I always buy used vehicles. Bought one truck new do to a special promotion that put the price less than what private owners were asking for 3 year old trucks.
Bought my Ultra new, because I could afford it and my wife wanted me to have a "new" bike. The one I had at the time was very used.
As far as warranty, you can buy a warranty for just about any vehicle if that piece of paper makes you feel better.
