Anybody else here not into buying new?

Somebody has to buy new for us to buy used. Eash to his own but buying used allowed me to get two bikes. I bought the 03 Vrod in 03, 2k miles. Bought the 99 ultra in 08. with 14k miles The wife rides the vrod or behind on the tourer. Its the best of both worlds. No regrets yet here plus both came with almost all the extras HD could sell the previous owners. Did buy from dealer though, spent a little more to make (hopefully) sure someone had gone through them before I bought them.

There are a lot of really well taken care of bikes out there with low miles a lot cheaper than new. I probably wouldn't even consider buying a new bike. In the case of the Muscle we found one that was $6k less than it would have been new and the guy had changed the pipes out. It just depends on what you're comfortable with.

Used for me on both the bikes I've purchased. I almost bought my Heritage new but the dealer told me that "in Oklahoma we don't go down to MSRP" and let me walk out his dealership three times. I went to Texas and bought an 07 Heritage with 2200 miles for 16k from Dream Machines of Texas last March. Even took my sporty off my hands.

+1 bought all used. and stayed away from the ones that were 'too customized' in other word I bought bikes that I didn't have to undo a lot I wasn't crazy about. And with the exception of one car and the house, everything is paidfor in cash.

+2 picked up a used Fat Bob in Jan for about 30% less than the dealer wanted new, had a few thousand miles on it....I buy all my vehicles used.

anything under 8K that i can pay cash on i'll buy used. anything over 8 K i am taking a loan on i'll buy new.
i have no idea why the guy is getting rid of this bike, maybe he broke it in wrong, maybe it's a lemon, maybe it has persistent oil leaks, maybe he dragged it every stoplight and the motor is about shot. i want to mitigate my exposure and loss in the event i buy a lemon.
if i'm spending good coin i want the piece of mind that it was treated right from the get go.
i see guys paying 15K for used bikes with 20-30K miles on it and it seems awfully risky.
