Memorial Ride Ideas
Folks:
We lost a guy at work last week in a bike accident.
The biker community at at work wants to do a memorial ride, and is looking to me to guide them on etiquette, ideas, etc.
I guess the basic questions are around, is there some kind of formation, flag, whatever that is universal in nature that indicates that a group is riding in memory of a fallen rider? I'm not aware of anything, but thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyone knows of such things.
If this is too much of a bummer, please feel free to reply directly to me instead of the board.
Thanks!

The really big question is. Will he be in a Casket or Urn. We did a Great Memorial ride for a Guy here in Oregon that was in an Urn. Straped him down on a seat.
Had his Brother and Sister Riding their bikes. Bother had Mom with him. Packed a bunch of other Family Members on Bikes that had shown up. No Cages at the Cemetary.
Took him on tour of Portland Oregon some of his favorite places.
He was a Vet so we had the PGR there to. His service at Portland National was done by another Bikers who is a Minister.
Ended up being one of the more touching services I have attended.

Great story, thanks.
His funeral is this Wednesday and we are thinking about doing something on Friday or the week after. In other words, he won't be with us.
So far, suggestions I have heard are to ride w/ passenger pegs down, and tying a black ribbon with his name on it to our bars.
We're going to organize an annual poker run to raise funds for his kids education, but that will probably be something we start on the anniversary of his crash next year.

Plenty of those type rides in and around Daytona. Most do a poker run sytle - start at one place - I prefer when they all depart at the same time but some it's last stand up by 11 or so. Then finish at a place with a band and a 50/50 or drawing. Iron Horse and White Eagle have em about every Sunday.

If you're doing a "fund raiser" it's probably too late to get many folks...
if you're just riding in memory of your friend....
I've always put my passenger pegs/floorboards down. that way the deceased and be "riding along"
As far as next year's event. It's never too early to start the planning.
If you go from "bar to bar" some folks won't attend,
If you don't go to bars, other folks won't attend.
A good compromise, might be to start at a dealership, visit a few sites, then end at a watering hole.
Whatever you decide, remember to get permission from the stops
