The only people I know who think custom paint or a lot of mods will add to the resale value of their bikes are the people who have done that...

There's always exceptions, but my observations since the 60's says that for the most part, it doesn't work that way in the real world...

Ya the more I think about it the more I'm with you on that. In the case of my wife's custom paint its probably the only custom paint that I like. The dealer probably got lucky to because it sat less than a full day on the floor.

As far as performance mods I run like hell. Soon as somebody tells me they've been in the motor I am not interested.

I might be one of the few that actually puts value in nice chrome work though. Genuine HD chrome anyhow. I know what its gonna cost me to do it so .......... if its already done thats good for me. Pipes hold value. Stock pipes on a HD might as well tack 5 bills on your finished cost,, but if they're done.....

Eye Of The Beholder perhaps.

That was a big seller for me on my standard. It already had a ton of money in HD Chrome and V&H pipes already on it.
I pretty much finished up what they started for under 1K

When I bought my current bike it had some green pin striping that looked like ****. I bought it from an indy shop and told the owner that I hated the paint and I would be repainting it. I think it helped me get the price down to a fair price. I talked him down from $10,000 to $9,400. Had it had the stock paint I wouldn't have had that much room to bargain. Oh and I did repaint it and am happy with it now.

The green bike in the link. WTF were they smokin that day?

Sorry, don't like the green bike, but I've tried to sell my bike (didn't sell) and have wondered if the custom paint job might be an issue.
