Those are probably the street legal SE pipes not the SEII's or SE Pro Performance like I have which were in the Screamin Eagle Racing Catalog in 2006.

those pipes in the new 2007 catalog are the new screamin eagle mufflers designed to emit the street legal sound

the ones that HD is no longer selling are the Screamin Eagle Pro line...which did not appear on the regular catalog...but on a screamin eagle saparate catalog.

I fail to see the point of the new "street legal" mufflers. If they meet noise regulations, they must not be significanly louder or perform better than the stock pipes. Does anybody have a set of these things so they can tell us why they're worth buying?

What exactly is the definition of 'street legal'?

Its worse than that guys, the SEII do not meet the new EPA regs and thats what this is all about. Harley does not want to get sued by the EPA for a monster fine to fund their operation. Dealers are going to be at risk shortly for modifying existing exhaust systems.

The SEII say right on them "not for street use" they pump out a lot more power than the wimpy street legal stuff sold through the dealers right now. They are louder too but not excessive like a good set of V&H are.

I have a set of 05 SEII for sale in the parts section off a 05 Fatboy. Complete set. pipes, mufflers, heat shields. Dirt cheap.

They offer a little more performance, the dyno charts are in the catalog right next to the mufflers. However I have not heard the street legal version so I could not tell you about the sound.

I'm willing to bet that they NEVER met EPA and/or DOT regs. Hence, they say "for off road use only" on them.

The issue is for a manufacturer to sell such a device on a vehicle that is highly unlikely to be used only for off-road/track use just wouldn't pass muster if they ever got taken to court. "Wink wink, nudge nuge" regarding non-street legal parts isn't going to fly for much longer, and HD wanted to make sure they weren't going to be used as a target by the feds.
