Default Oil filters

I have some older Amsoil oil filters for my old Evo Low Rider. Can I use it on an TC 03 Ultra.
I've read that the older filter has larger micron openings and something about the anti drain back valve.
All I would like to know is will it hurt the TC motor to use the older less restrictive filter.
I would think going the other way might be a problem, being more restrictive.

Has this been covered before?
Thanks

Your TC is back speced to 5 micron rating. Which is less of a big deal than the ADBV. You should absolutely NOT use an oil filter without and ADBV on a TC engine because it can cause top end oil starvation wear. Looking in the filter if you do not see a black or orange or red rubber/silicon ADBV then do not use it.

As for the level of restriction...no issue going form the 10 micron on a 5 micron bike. Using a 5 micron on an EVO will also cause oil starvation.

Thanks KBFXDLI, I guess you're the only expert here on filters. I was thinking the same thing, but didn't know if something larger then 5 microns would hurt some oil passages.
I will look for the rubber ADBV.
The filter has been sitting on my shelf for 10 years and I would like to use it if I can. I was hoping someone in my HOG chapter would buy it, but out of the more then 500 members, I don't think more then 6 or 7 actually change their own oil. And they all have TC's.

I stole this:

WARNING: All filters are not created equal even though they fit. Differences in bypass spring pressure and filter media could result in damage to your engine.
While it is advised to use the proper HD filter for your engine for proper filtration, here is a cross reference if you can't get a genuine part.

Sorry I have to disagree. Lower micron rating is to stop particles not liquid flow, so there shouldnt be any flow restriction. jmpo.
I would advise against using 10 yo filters too, the enviroment will have degraded the paper/rubber/sealant in the filter to where I wouldnt trust it to hold up to the heat and pressures.

About the ADBV....cross reference for the harley filter matches the Fram PH6022, which I have, but it does not have the ADVB. Why would it be cross-referenced if it would damage the engine by allowing drain back?

Look it up on here....many complaints from EVO guys about top end noise using the 5 micron filters. They change back to the 10 micron...noise gone.

Not sure about their chart...but with a horizontally mounted filter you need an ADBV or the engine can starve while the filter fills on cold start. I would use a different brand.

Thanks for the info. I haven't used the filter, I just found it sitting in my pile of "collectibles" and was considering changing my oil tomorrow. I live about 100 miles from the nearest place I can buy a filter, so I guess I will just wait until I get to the town.

Well I dont have my evo anymore, but after I built the motor I ran 5mc filters and never had a problem. Although there is a lot of info on this forum, theres both good and bad, but you have to take everything with a grain of salt. jmo
