Mine pops all the time. I'm not crazy about it, but it does keep the cars behind me a little further back

If your EFI bike consistently pops on decel it need to be tuned. Usually it is an indication that it is running too lean or too rich.

+1 I hate it! It is an instant indication the bike is not tuned properly and that means it is not performing at it's peak. Even if I liked the sound, I wouldn't feel good about picking sound over performance, but to each his own. My guess is you have an exhaust leak and it''s causing combustion in the exhaust system on deceleration. In most cases, no harm done, if you like the sound, leave it. I hear so many that are badly tuned or have exhaust leaks, one more won't matter.

It seems the octane level in the fuel is the biggest factor on whether my bike pops or not. Cheap gas, lots of popping and backfiring. If I put in the high test, no popping or backfiring.

Put in a 103 kit and the decel popping problem began. Once I had it dynoed, the popping (almost completely - 98%) disappeared.

+1 Once I got a dyno map from Latus HD loaded I have to really work at it to get mine to pop just once so I know it is dialed in close. Plus the bike runs way smooth and no surging. But if I get crappy gas I can tell.
