Default Snap Ring Pliers

I am changing out the foot pegs on my sportster and need to remove that snap ring. I bought a pair of snap ring pliers at Lowes this morning but the ends are too big. The holes on the snap rings are .040 diameter. The pair I got at Lowes is .055 diameter. Does anyone know where I can get a pair that fit this ring?

Try NAPA or some other auto parts store.
Some have interchangeable tips/sizes.

Lowes only had the one set that I bought no other versions of them. After going to two other stores I found a set at Harbor freight. they are nice enough to print what size the prongs are on the back of the package, these are .038 diameter and worked great.

pull the snap pins off with some needle nose pliers, and replace those stud things with some chrome bolts and chrome nuts.

I've a drawer full of snap ring pliers that I've destroyed by filing the points to fit whatever I needed to remove. Can't ever have enough specialty tools can ya?

For future reference, check with Sears...I bought a set from them that had a range of tip sizes that could be changed out...think they came with either 4 or 5 different tips. Some automotive stores may have the same kinda thing.

Sears has Craftsman pliers that come with different size tips that can be changed.
