Baffled vs. Non-Baffled: Help, I'm baffled
What's the difference between baffled and non-baffled exhausts? I found a set of Samson duals that I like, and I don't know which to get. Is there a difference in sound? Would one be more quiet than the other?

I'm not the smartest guy in the world but... a muffler does exactly that. It muffles the sound of the exhaust coming out of the pipes. Generally, if the pipes have no muff, it will be loud but will also have no tone. I cut mine in half and it made a difference.

Phrog; you've been out to sea too long.
Drag pipes (without baffles) are for the drag strip and wide open throttle. HD's need some back pressure. Baffles also quiet the exhaust down up to a point. Some work better than others.

Thanks for the input. I'm going baffled.

I run Bassani Pro Street drag pipes with removable baffles on my 08' FXSTB. With baffles they are loud but have a nice tone. Without the baffles they are LOUD and sound like a scalded cat when you roll on the stick. Without the baffles the scoot feels like it loses low end torque, probably a loss of back pressure issue.
