Just checked my oil and its at the fill mark, Dealer that did my last oil change recommended 20w50 but no one carries that grade here , is 10w30 good enough for now?Im using Royal Purple Max oil , all I can get tonight is 10w30 oil.and plan on riding in the morning.

Try an auto parts store like NAPA-- I was just in there today and they had 3-4 different brands of motorcycle oil in 20w-50.
An indy is also a good source.
20w-50 is really what you need... you might be able to get away with a 15w-40 this early in the season, but I'd just look for the heavier weight.

The required/preferred oil is a 20W50 fossil or synthetic. 10W30 is way to thin, listen to the previous answers and suggestions, those were free, a toasted engine will cost a few pennies to rebuild/replace. But then it's your motor.

In truth, the engine isn't going to seize or suffer damage if the oil level is right at the ADD line; it's only a few ounces to get you back into the "normal" zone and there's still plenty to feed the oil pump so the engine will not starve for oil. But it's not a good idea to run the engine low on oil as the oil that's in there will get hotter than usual because there is less to absorb engine heat. I'd suggest driving it just long enough to get somewhere like Wal Mart, a dealer, indy, or even a gas station that has 20W-50. If that's a long way away, then I'd put enough 10W-30 in it to get you back into the safe zone (that little bit won't appreciably degrade the 20W-50 in there now) then top it off with 20W-50 as soon as possible.

If it were an emergency light oil better than no oil, sounds like this aint an emergency but if it were i might well use the lighter oil to get where i could get the right oil then ............ change it asap

I run mine at the fill mark all the time. 3 1/2 quarts gets it right above the add line. That's where I run it. Harleys are a dry sump system so it doesn't matter either way. I run it 1/2 qt low to keep it from blowing oil out the breathers.
