Default Carrying Extra Gasoline

Planning to do some long distance riding and down here (New Mexico) it can get pretty desolate. Does anyone have any ideas for a gas container that will fit in the hardside saddlebag on my Streetglide? I am thinking a plastic water bottle is NOT a good idea. thanks!

Seen some on ebay that look like a tool pouch. I just check the map and plan stops accordingly. 200 miles and my *** needs a stretch anyway.

Back in the '80s when Gatorade still came in glass bottles, me and my buddy would use those going thru New Mexico. They fit nicely in saddlebags. Our sportys didn't hold much gas, so we'd have a couple. What still comes in glass? OJ maybe?

Try using those plastic military canteens.

MSR Fuel bottles. Can be purchased at camping stores and places like REI, Academy, etc...they're specifically for fuel.

I live just down the road apiece on the Westside so if you find a local source for
workable fuel containers, I'd sure appreciate you sending me a PM. I'm going to
start looking around hard this week as I have a very long solo ride planned at the
end of the month.

They look a bit pricey, whats the difference between those and aluminum screw top water bottles?

Just pay attention to where you are...fill up between 1/4 & 1/2 a tank..
These days there are very few places with more than 200 miles between
gas stations.. Not worth the risk of carrying gas in my opinion..

One difference might have to do with the seals on the cap and their compatibility with fuel. Also, aren't most gasoline containers vented in some way? I'm not sure that a container that works with MSR (isobutane/propane blend) is safe for transporting gasoline. I really don't have any idea, but I'd look into it a little more before doing it.
