riding with ape hangers
#21
Wait until you are riding down the road and a bee flies up your tee shirt sleeve and stings you in the armpit. Or you find that your shoulders hurt like crazy after an hour at 80 mph. They are not real good in sudden riding emergencies. Plus all the sports bike riders laugh at you as they pass. Not to mention your bike looks like a Big Wheel for a five year old.
But, hey YMMV! :- )

16's on a RK at your height will be well above the shoulders esp if you have a low profile seat, but I think you'd be fine.
I loooove my apes. 16's on a Street Bob. Very comfortable.
Haaaa, I base ALL my cycling decisions on whether a sport bike guy is gonna laugh at me or not!! Or not...
I will add that tall apes wouldnt be my first choice for an inexperienced rider. They DO change control characteristics. Not necessarily for the worse, but different.

I'm 5'7" and had 16's on my Street Bob. They were comfy around town but after longer rides, 100+ miles, I would get a pain in my shoulders. I ended up switching to 13's and after my first 100 mile ride I have had no issues. As someone stated earlier, you could always go with the 16's first and then swap them for lower ones if they become uncomfortable.
