RE: What Kind of Engine Oil do you use....?
at my 1k they put in syn three, after reading these forums i replaced it with mobile one. after just four hundred miles the syn three was black. been a mechanic for years never seen oil darken so quickly short of a diesel. my guess is that it cant handle the heat. been about 600 miles since i replaced with the mobil one and the oil is still a nice amber color. had some crunching and other noises coming from the trans, replaced with redline shockproof heavy. runs smoother and no funny noises or problems finding nuetral. changing primary oil this weekend with mobil one hope the syn three can stand up untill then.

HD 20W-50
Talked to the service manager and he said the bike will run just fine with non-synth so no reason to change.

I would rather run HD 360 and change my oil more frequently in extreme hot or cold weather than to stand the chance of running synth to normal change intervals, or beyond, and having a mechanical failure.

When I had my E84 Evo, I ran nothing but Pennzoil (sp) 20W50. Regular car oil. Ran that bike almost 90,000 miles and never had a problem. Changed it out every 2000 miles. In the Twinkie, I've been running Mobil1 V Twin but can't see the expense of it anymore. I'm **** about oil changes. Just might go back to running 10W-40 in the primary again. The tranny will remain Redline Shockproof though.

I use the Harley 20-50 and their primary/tranny oil. Once the warranty has expired I may switch to Amsoil, I hear it is the best for High temp applications. But my Harley dealer told me it was a waste of money to put in the syn stuff.
My biker buddy who has ridden for over 30 years and had many harleys tells me a different story. He claims Amsoil is the only way to go, will protect the engine in heavy traffic meltdown situations and will result in a smoother shifting tranny. Different weights of Amsoil for the primany/tranny vs the engine, of course.
