I have a Wide Glide. My brother-in-law has a Softtail. Personally mine will ride rings around his. If you are into performance get the Dyna it is the hotrod.
If your into performance get a V-rod, conventional harleys arn't about getting there fast, there about getting there in style!

Get a softail and go from this to this in a few minutes. Best of both worlds. I have since put 2 into 1 Pro Pipes and replaced the HD bags with some real bags. I love this bike. Oh, did I mention Dyna's are chick bikes? JK

Just realize that the Dynas are ridden by highly intelligent, attractive individuals with a higher level of libido than that their softail counterparts. Not a big issue to some but which side do you want to be on? If you don't believe me ask them...........they love Dynas

It is all in what you want in a bike. Do you like the look? Then test ride it. If you like the ride and the look then buy the bike It doesn't matter if it is a sporster, vrod, dyna, softy or a bagger they are all harleys.

But for my money the new SE Dyna kicks ***.

It depends on what you want the bike for... I have a bob and then the wife says "Can I ride?" um its a bob... I now get a 2upo seat... Can we go camping... um now I need to pack stuff... man I shoulda got a Road King. I think the RK is the best of both worlds and agree with the previous poster. Regardless...I got the Bob and keeping it...we are planning a RK next year as long as I am still riding.

After riding a dyna and being used to the vibration, I took off on a softail and couldn't even tell the dang thing was running. That's how much difference the counterbalancing makes, but I like the shaking dyna. Who needs to see out of their mirrors? And the counterbalancing also slightly takes away from the performance potential of the V-twin engine. The rear of the softail does look better in my opinion though, especially with some of the aftermarket pipes.
