I would trailer it home & park it in the garage. Then I would spend the next 2 weeks or more on the HDF asking tons of questions about breaking it in, what oil to use, should I wear chaps or fingerless gloves. Once you gather all the info you need do all all the work before you ride & pick up all the necessities. It will take a while to figure out what helmet to use too. Buy the time your done you will have 3125 post here & it will be time to winterize the bike but you will be ready to ride next spring.......

I'm gonna bet that the bike is pretty well broken in by the time you get it. My guess is that when the tech gets your bike uncrated and assembled he will fire it up and head out for a short test ride. I'll also guess that the bike is not babied and is ran hard through the gears and by the time he returns to the shop the bike is ready to ride. I don't know for sure but I would imagine that the bike is ran at the factory also.
Think about how many times the pistons have traveled up and down inside the cylinders after just a couple minutes of run time. Run the engine at a mild 3000 rpm for 5 minutes and calculate how many times the pistons have made the trip up and down inside the cylinder. Given sufficient lubrication I'll wager that the engine is "broken in" a whole lot quicker than what the owner's manual says.

I rode mine home. Luckily the traffic was light and I was able to drop my speed way down, pick up speed, run constant at about 50 or so for a bit and then drop my speed, run through the gears, etc. I did this for the first 50 miles or so. It was clear sailing after that. Just run it like as if you're in traffic for a while - slow down and speed up, all the while going through the gears.

No need to impress or please anyone else but yourself! Don't worry about the break in .. that starts the moment you turn the key.
