new bike haul it or ride it home

if you drive there, and leave your cage at the dealership... you're still 100 miles away. and if you can't get a friend to drive 100 mile to help you pick up a motorcycle... there's even less who''ll do it for some car you left
I admit, I'm of the opinion "if you even think about this......"

long thread .... what was the question? oh yeah trailering it home. I trailered mine because I picked it up during a hurricane (really) but that was the only time. If the weather is good, and you feel confident, then by all means ride it. Have fun.

Bad weather first time on new scoot or inexperienced = trailer
Other then that ride it!
Of course I violated the bad weather/out of practice rule in 2000 when I picked up my new 800 lb Yamaha Road Star. Had spent a lot of years on bikes but been away from at that time for about 10 years. Rode 100 miles home, caught some rain and had my 13 y/o son on the back. Looking back that was a bonehead move, but we made it safe.
Picked up the 08 RKC at 6PM on a summer evening and rode the heck out of it for 2 hours until I picked up a nasty bolt from who knows where into the back tire! Had to trailer it the rest of the way home from there so I guess the HD got both!

I agree, but a lot of 'very first bikes' should probably be trailered home. And I'm sometimes amazed at what people buy for the very first bike...sometimes so small they outgrow it in a week, and others so big and powerful that it's not suited for a beginner.

i think the OP was wanting to trailer it home because there's a certain method of break-in that he wants to do and riding it the 100 home may disrupt that.
not sure of the break in type but if it's bringing the bike hard up to 65 in 3rd and then coasting to 30 and doing it ten times on a long straight away to seat the rings. you can do this by the dealership, it takes ten minutes, then just cruise home.
