The benefit is I know when I'm at 1800,...and no I don't **** at 5000, I said I would be exceeding the speed limit if I shifted at 5000

What's a tach? Our bikes run out of steam long before the redline but they do have rev limiters.
"Our"? Speak for yourself. LOL

Seriously, the rev limiter will stop you from over doing it as far as max is concerned.
Won't hurt a thing, and once you hit it a few times, you'll know where the max is without hitting the limiter.

Minimum? Surely you can feel if your motor is struggling or not. If it's straining, time to downshift, then learn to stay out of that range. Get the "feel" for it.

Shift light is much better than a tach, for me. I can see it with my peripheral vision while going fast (don't have to take my eyes off the road). A monkey can win races with a shift light.

For normal riding I don't let the RPMs drop below 2500 or so. Now when I am putting down a slow speed downtown street or passed a cop I might let her drop down to 2000 but i don't make a practice of it. I don't jump on it hard below about 2700-3000 RPM. I normally up-shift around 4000 unless I am gettin on it then it's more like 5000+

in your original post you wrote "****" at 5000 instead of shift.
