Yes, but most of India's motorcycle market is based on bottom of the line scooters. Lots of parts and services from other companies come from India. I don't think they would ever intentionally make an inferior part for a Harley or anything else as far as that goes.
I also don't think their is as much of a market over there for a Harley because of their initial expense. Only five hundred inquiries so far. Probably from the only people who would want one.
Jus sayin!

But what about the heritage and American made part of HD??? What will happen to it? Now it sounds like it will be American assembled!
That's just WRONG!

It certainly sounds to me that selling the bikes there is the 1st step to begining to make the parts there but that is speculation. My point is what you said, there are so many people on here that say they wouldn't buy a Harley unless it was all American made. I guess only time will tell.

Obviously none of you have looked lately at any of the Harley parts you have purchased to see where they are made. I can almost 100% assure you that today's Harley is hardly 100% American made and is almost nothing BUT assembled in America. I have toured every Harley factory in the US and most of the work is assembly. The days of 100 percent American made anything are almost over. Take a look at Harley's prices over the past 10~15 years and you will see that for instance, a Fatboy is around $16K stock all those years.....how is this possible to hold this price point with costs constantly on the rise year over year? Simple answer.....off shore source for parts....made cheaper anywhere other than in America. That said, I just bought a new 2010 StreetGlide last month.

My Japanese mfg'd big screen TV was made in.......Mexico!

if outsourcing is so much cheaper why are the bikes the same price or more?
where is the all the money they are saving?
in their GREEDY pockets thats where!
is a fat boy built with all foreign parts worth 16 grand?
I`m not all that familliar with the history of HD but was a bike built in the 1980`s mostly American parts?

Mercedes sources its castings and forging from India. Cat sources many part there also. One of the world's wealthiest families is in the steel industry there.

Where a part is made has nothing to do with its quality. The specifications control that.

A friend of mine has a 1962 SL190 that needed a new brake master cylinder. Mercedes wanted $900.00 for it. He did some research and found the supplier in India that made the part. He got it from them for $90.00.

Anything that will hold the line on prices is okay with me.
