Can you drop a couple shrimp in the oil tank and fry some lunch also? That may motivate me to switch to Crisco. Go riding for 20 minutes and lunch is ready.

I've used Redline, M1, Amsoil, Syn 3, and HD360. Can't say I felt any performance difference or heat reduction with any of them more than the rest, which is a big selling point for just about all these oils. Only difference was how much engine noise (like valve tick) was present with the different brands.

I know lots of folks running 20W-50 car oils (Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil, Havoline) that have over 100k miles on their bikes with no problems. Most change the oil at 3k miles, some less & some more. I also know quite a few guys running diesel engine oils like Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac, and Chevron Delo. All swear by these heavy-duty oils, and most change at 4k-5k mile intervals. Again, never seen any problems associated with using this type of oil, and it is H-D's authorized substitute in case you can't get HD oil.

For the OP- when in doubt, you can always default to the manufacturer's recommendations. I'm sure (and so is HD, the guys warrantying your engine) that Syn3 or HD360 will more than adequately protect your engine.

You have wandered into one of the greatest debate topics in all of motorcycling: "What oil?"
Best of luck navigating your way through it all...

I use Mobil 1 20/50 V Twin in the engine, Mobil 1 75/90 in tranny, & B&M Trick Shift in Primary. Seems to work for me.

The factory recommends HD360 in 20w50 weight and Formula+ for the trans and primary so that's your baseline. You can go any way you chose from there.

I have bought HD BRAND OIL for years and thought I was at least helping the dealer a little bit. If it's true that Hugo Chavez makes Harley oil then they should seriously reconsider an American oil company to make theirs, I don't care if they charge 2 dollars a quart more for anything but Venezuelan oil I would gladly pay it to know that Hugo doesn't get my money.

As of yesterday I ordered Mobil1 Vtwin, I guess I've got about 10,000 miles before I need any more engine oil. Maybe by then Harley will change their supplier.
