Eyewear for those with glasses
A guy I work with bought an '87 Sportster and is now trying to find something to accomodate his glasses. He's seen the MoCo's prescription sunglasses, but by the time he gets the transitional prescription lenses with the frames he's looking at over $350. He'd consider over the glasses goggles, but has been unable to find any that he likes. He prefers to not ride with a helmet due to the fact that he has no windshield and doesn't like the wind gusts that catch his helmet. I'm hoping that some of you might have been thru this and have some good advice for me to pass on. Thanks.

My best advice is for him to get a full face helmet, install foam earplugs in his ears, put the helmet on and his glasses and enjoy the ride. He'll be able to see, hear, avoid a sunburned head and maybe a cracked skull if some knothead cager does the unthinkable.

Still looking. Right now I'm using a flip down face shield, which works fine with my 3/4. My over the headlight mounted tool bag blocks most of the air, better than the windshields I tried.
So far I've learned that Wal-mart has prescription wrap around with padding cheaper that anywhere, but I saw only one style, a dull silver. Someone said that for some people the curved prescription doesn't work well.
I used the $10 plastic safety over glasses for awhile, and they gave good coverage, but the side vision was partially blocked or blurry. Someone said a good one is at Bass Pro.

I'm most comfortable wearing my contacts with a pair of goggles that fit well and keep the wind out. Can he wear contacts? I usually wear a half helmet. Sometimes I go full face- longer trips, inclement weather. I used to wear eyeglasses on the bike until I got tired of the wind whipping around them and making my eyes waters. I don't think the wind issue will bother your buddy- most of the full face helmets are pretty aerodynamic and comfortable for long hauls. However, if he's against wearing helmets for other reasons then some goggles are probably the best bet.
Those prescription sunglasses sound like a waste of $$.

I had a really nice pair of Timberland frames that I got from my optometrist. They were wrap around frames that grip the side of my head and were polarized and bifocal (tells something about my age I guess). I loved them. Some a$$hole stole them out of the truck I drive courier with while I was having lunch in a local restaurant. I hope they gave the SOB a headache. I couldn't afford to replace them since My prescription insurance wouldn't cover a replacement set. My homeowner insurance is 500.00 deductible and my auto insurance wouldn't work because the truck wasn't mine.
I went to Walmart and got something as close to the Timberlands as I could get. They are sport frame glasses with soft foam rubber all around the frames as well as the nose piece. The foam also serves to keep bugs etc from getting behind the lenses. They cost me about 250.00, but part of that was for the bifocals and 50.00 of it was for the extra strong prescription I require. They are working well for me so far. They seem strong and rugged. I wear a helmet, so some of your friend's issues wouldn't be a factor for me. However, I don't wear a helmet when I am riding my Kawasaki Mule offroad. They have done very well for me there and the amount of dust etc. that gets into my eyes has been reduced a great deal Walmart also sells prescription goggles. Cost for the frames are about the same as the sport frames I got.

I got a pair of Wiley X JP 2 glasses, ANSI approved, with prescription lenses from rxsafetywear.com for $190. If you don't get the transitional lenses, it's about $45 less. Their transitional lenses are decent, but don't expect them to get real dark. These glasses have the removable liner, but with the way the frames curve and the way they need to cut the lenses, I don't wear them around as sunglasses. They fit my face nice and snug around the eye cups and come with a strap so they don't move at all cruising down the road.

I wear fairly strong prescription lenses and had a hell of a time finding anything that works. Several years ago I ordered a pair of Aviator Goggles from Classic Goggles out of New York with prescription inserts. They work like a million bucks, I won't ride on the highway without them. They come with several different color lenses, and for a little more you can get the blue iridium lenses which are great in bright sunlight. A full face helmet would probably solve the problem, but a lot of those don't fit real well with glasses.
