Default service question

looking for opionions here............I picked up a brand new leftover 08 FLHT in January...LOVE IT......was lucky enough to be able to go to Daytona and enjoy some riding for bike week...put 1400 miles on it.....didn't get around to making a service appt till this week....weather is supposed to be nice next few days and would like to ride it....just worried bout rackin up more miles on it before the service....figure they'd probably frown on bringin it in for 1k service with 2k on it...lol didn't know if they'd deny me future warranty claims or anything...I didn't buy it at the dealer I use for service...I know some places are very strict with that kind of stuff....my service appointment is this Friday....I know its important after break in to replace fluids and check stuff out.....what do you think?

Check with your dealer about the warranty. Some of them are sticklers.

If you want to save some money though, think about going to an indy. As long as you have documentation that the service was performed, they should honor it.

I've always owned used bikes, and as such done maintenance on my own.
One thing you pay for in a new bike though is the warranty, and it would be a shame to lose that.

I was a couple hundred miles over when I did the 1K service...wasn't a problem...

Lots of guys are gonna say DIY, that you don't have to have a dealer do that, and that's true...and no, they can't void your warranty as long as you save receipts and can show that the work was done...

I had my dealer do the first one for only $139, wasn't that much money, and beats fighting City Hall down the road...

I've done everything myself since, and still have a good relationship with my dealer...

They make a big deal about that service but if they are going to require it to be done by the dealer they have to do it for free.

I'm sure there have been people bringing them with more miles than that. I'm having mine done this week when they pull it out of storage and mine has 1400 miles on it.

then all of them at 1k or near as possibly...

You ruined it. Trade it for a new one.

I changed the motor oil & filter @ 100 miles, then motor oil, primary & trans @ the 1000 mile service. Maybe a little ****, but I like to make sure it's clean and will last a long time.
