Hourly Rate
Hello,
I was just wondering what's the going rate for a good mechanic? Not at a dealership, at a local bike shop. And can anyone suggest a good shop in Suffolk County, NY?
Thanks,
Bill

The local dealer has shop rates posted, indy's go under that until they expand to bigger digs, then to pay for it, their rates, in my experience go up accordingly. when they're hungry and looking for a foothold you get good deals, everyone's out to make a buck. Best bet is to work for the most part on your ride yourself.

For cheap bucks and the knowledge available here you should be able to fix most anything, let alone a full motor teardown. If you screw up, don't bring them a basket case, try to put it back to normal if you can.

IMO Service Manuals are worth the money in every way
As far as I'm concerned the Service manuals are worth buying to do any serious work, or if you just simply want to know your ride inside and out with far better detail than the owners manuals.

Round here, Dealer rate's about 74.00 an hr.....indy's, if they're any count, bout 48-65.00 an hr

We have three dealers in three cities that can be considered within reasonable traveling distance. The economic status of the city is the determining factor in labor pricing and is between $75.00 to $85.00 ... local indy shops between $55.00 and $65.00.
