My ride is a '65 Pan so ya' got to be ready for just about anything. Besides the normal handtools I also have a 10" crescent wrench, small chain breaker, shock adjuster and a small plastic kickstand ground plate for soft dirt. Spare parts and other neccessities: points,
plugs, condenser, clutch cable, inner throttle cable, sack of nuts/bolts, sandpaper, tie straps, tube of thread ease, small tube of superglue, small fire extingusher, small bible (like I said, on a Pan ya' got'ta be ready for anything!), pocket flask of wiskey, can of fix-a-flat, hair brush (I'm just a hippy with a motorcycle), small packs of hand cleaners, gum, breath mints, and I've probably forgot a few other items. Sounds like a lot but I've made a science of packing thinks that go in my bags. The tools and parts come from practical
experience of what I've needed on the road. I will add that my saddlebags are leather with a separate leather tool bag on the sissy bar. One last item I'll stash in a bag if I think it might be a good idea is a pistol. The gun will be a "throw-away" type.........

grumpy irish again - the list is long and just makes it look like a lot. Most of the items are small, but it doesn't hurt that we're riding an 03 EG, so we've got two hard saddle bags and a touring pack. Besides....I haven't even listed what the wife takes for clothing yet. Just imagine a week or more on the road

Super glue for lacerations in the first aid kit; it's easier than suturing yourself up.

mimo - you're 110 percent correct. I also tried having the wife go on a diet and the only thing "we" lost was 2 pounds when she cut my n&%s off And the worst thing was, I didn't notice any increase in horsepower.

Hi, Nu B Street Glider,

I pack light & compact. Have a small backpack pouch where I carry:

Champion Model Swiss Army Knife
Leatherman Wave Model Tool
Spaulding BicycleTool (bought at localSears Bicycle section)

The SwissChamp provides most light tools.
TheLeatherman adds pliers, beefier files, saws, screw/philips driversand blades.
The Spaulding/Sears bicycle tool may sound funny, but it adds an adjustablewrench and full set of Allen tools which my Sportster has a lot of. It fits all of them.

These all fit in my backpack, tank bag or saddlebags (depending on what I'm wearing) any given day very compactly and it's quite light.

For a long/extended trip, I pack my Smith & Wesson tool kit. Not joking here, folks. It's a very compact (1 1/2" thick) socket/allen/any-kind-of-driver kit I found on sale at an Army/Navy store for about $30.

If I can't fix it with any of this, I'll just put my thumb out and use my phone card (don't have a cell phone... boycotting them these days... another story).

For localriding, Idon't carry anything, except the Swiss knife and Leatherman which I carry everywhere whether I'm riding or not.

Have never needed anything for my machine. But I carry them more to render assistance. For that, they've come in handy a few times.

Regards,
Bob G in NY
...who thinks you can never be too prepared...
If I can't fix it with my tools, call a tow truck.
