I have to change rear brakes every tire change. I change tires four times every year. I change front half those times. Front brakes last long as dose the tire. If I use front brake all year around with the weather in this state. I would more front tire slids. You should not use front on gravel roads, Icy roads, Wet roads, Gas stations, Dirt on roads, and in turns. Hell that every where that we ride. I use rear brake with a little front brake in most areas that I have ride. I see so many riders right out driving school crash because they teach them to use front brake over the rear brake. Some road should not use that front brake over rear brake it's something you will learn over time.

It always amazes me to see the different riding philosophies and most of them not really based on good riding technique.

Go back to all the little crashes in HD forums most are from drivers using the front brakeing crash on wet roads, at gas station, on the road side and the list go on.

I've been told I use too much rear brake, but what the hell, it's what I do. Gotta agree that with low speed/low traction situations, you have to use your rear brake a lot.

How about U.??
Rear brakes only for slow speed maneuvering. Both most of the rest of the time with a heavy hand and a light foot! When I was a Newb rider, I once hit the back brake first on a wet road and went for a slide.

The only time I use the rear exclusively is to 'trail brake' on corner approachs if think I'm coming in too fast.

...hmm, I need to get a sig pic going. To bad I'll be riding all day and won't have time.

I use both most of the time. I try to give the rear a pump or two first just to get the brake lights on and then ad the front.

I know that hitting the rear first is leftover from riding bicycles as a kid and faceplanting from using only the front brake. Some lessons stick with you whether you need them or not.

I carry an anchor on my bikes that I just throw out when I want to stop.

I use both to stop. Rear only to just slow down when I want to go around a corner. Front only to just slow down when I am going in a straight line.
