I second the vote for a detachable fairing.

Had HD windshields on both of my softails, never had any problems like you're describing. As far as seats, forget about corbin. They are high quality, but hard as a rock. A lot of people like Mustangs for comfort. I personally like seats with gel inserts. Good luck on your trip!

I got the HD quick off/on windwhield, and had quite a bit of buffeting. I ended up cutting the part around the head light so that I could lower it down on the forks about 2". That helped, and then I cut the upper mounting slots deeper so that the windshield layed back a little more. That helped also. It really is not to bad now, but still have some buffeting at certain speeds, and dependes on wind direction. I do really like the quick disconnect feature though.

After lots of testing with that windshield I finally gave up with it. Went to HD and picked up a street glide. Love the batwing fairing. Even with only a 4" windshield its better than that one on my Softail. The radio is also a huge bonus, its a great option.

I had the 2 piece Mustang seat on the Softail. I thought it was ok, better than the Badlander anyway, but my ol lady loved the thing.

Try wind deflectors. They work. Better yet, a Memphis Shades detachable batwing fairing. The fairing and hardware go for around $400 US. If you want a sound system try another vendor...the Memphis Shades is batwing only. Do a search on the forum...lots of comments.

Check out the F4 Customs shield. www.f4customs.com
Only shield that doesn't scratch, sheds rain, won't break and is unbelievably clear.
Great customer service also.

I'll second the wind deflectors. I set up the 06 with them & the shield & it was like riding in a cocoon. I didn't even need my earplugs. I changed some things on the 06 so I no longer use the shield or deflectors as I added a 09 Heritage to the garage. Buffeting on the 09 sucks when I ride with the shield so I added the HD wind deflectors & the buffeting totally stopped just like the 06. I usually don't run a shield when it's over 60* but when I do the "fangs" make a huge difference.
