I have a 2 5/8'' HD tachometer coming for my bike. Just had the S & S 510G cams installed. Didn't worry much about the RPM with just stock cams. Have the SE high flow air filter, Vance & Hines big shots staggered and power commander. I think with engine mods, a tach. becomes a essential part. If you don't plan on any engine mods ( I don't know why you wouldn't) you may not need one. My 94 Sporty had a tach. and what they say is right, you look at it more than you do the speedo.

Another option is the Speedway Micro Digital tach...it's real small but has a bright red digital readout that's easy to see. Mine's attached to the front brake sesivour(sp?) and wired internally thru the bars. You can get 'em in black or chrome. It was $149.00 and works great.

Here's a pic...kinda hard to see though.

Nope...just a digital rpm readout for about $149.00 (or less)

I think their website is speedwayinstruments.com to get a better view...and Phat Performance, a supporting vendor on this site, sells 'em at a discounted price.

I needed a tac. tossed around the idea of the mini or the split dial. I like looking out over my headlight on my RK. And had a little concern of the smaller digits on the split dial. I wound up getting the split Dial speedo / tach. It is alot easier to read than what I thought. So I'm a happy camper with my choice.
