I think id have to go look at the 2007 in akron and offer him $5000 cash if you really like it and if you had to go to the bank and borrow the $1000 or what ever your short and then as soon as your check comes from uncle sam pay that note off and you got a newer bike very little miles for what many are wanting for an older bike. Other option would be go older like the 02 or the 1995 and save the 2 or 3,000 that they are wanting for the newer bikes.

If you're looking at a private party sale IMO a reasonable way to figure the value is halfway between the KBB Retail value and the KBB Trade-In value. You should expect a private party sale to cost less than buying used from a dealer (the KBB Retail), but a private seller should make more than a dealer would give in trade (KBB Trade In value).

You guys were right. Cash is a great negotiator. I ended up buying the '06 they had priced at $5999. Told them I liked it, that I wanted it, but my budget would only allow me to spend $5,000. They countered at $5,500. I said fine, but the check would bounce at $5,500 I got it for my price, out the door with a couple of t shirts, and another shirt my girlfriend wanted. Once they realized I was making a reasonable offer, and wouldn't budge, they took it. So now I have a rubber mounted one, only 3,000 miles and I'm happy. I still don't have my tax refund yet, so I had to transfer a little bit from my "real" savings account, but I'll put it back when my taxes come.

Congrats on the bike. If I had it to do over and was looking for a used bike, I would not even step inside of a dealership (knowing what I know now), but if it worked out for you and you are happy that is all that matters. Enjoy the ride.
