Icky goo after 1000 mile service
I had my thousand mile service a couple of weeks ago. Ever since I have an icky goo dropping on the front top of the engine. (Sorry I leaned it up then realized I should have taken a picture). Being it's a new bike and I still clean it a lot it was really easy to spot.
Its not oil...it is a medium grease of some kind and I don't see it anywhere else. I can't seem to find the place it is leaking from unless it is like up under the tank some where. Don't see anything on the 1000 mile list that shows lubrications in that area except the cables.
Anyone else have this? Any ideas?

I had a similar problem. You may want to check the steering colum "Neck", they mechanic told me that they tend to pack them with grease (from the factory), and when it warms up and/or you get a few hot days the grease releases from the neck. Let me know how you make out.

Steering head grease.....its normal.
I try to remember to give it a wipe in the morning when I fire up. seems to ooze more on a day of riding twistys than normal back and forth to work (makes sense).
If it wasn't seeping a bit before the service it may have been dry..thats a bad thing

Only thing up there is the stearing column. Could be grease from it - look under the stearing column - probably they over pumped grease into it and some fell out - no big deal. Clean it up and wipe bottom of column. It's not something that should continue.

Yep. Steering head. Will happen after each service most likely.
If you wipe it off every few days it will be fine. After a week or two, it will stop.
I didn't catch some that got on my rocker covers. Its like glue now.

RE: Icky goo after 100 mile service
I take a closer look at the Steering Head when I get home tonight. Figured it had to be from there somewhere but haven't tracked it down quite yet.
Never saw it until after the service. They made a mess of the bike (and didn't clean it up[:@]), but I don't think I saw it when I took it home and did the clean up.
Last ride longer ride was in really hot weather , 104 at destination and 113 at home but 87 in-between, and 200 + miles of mostly freeway riding. It definately could have been the heat.
I'll see if I can clean it up at the Steering column and if it keeps up I'll take her over to the dealer....It was quite a bit of grease splatter on the top of the engine especally considering I had never seen it before. There was a bit on the front of the horn and one of the floor boards, but not really down the frame.
Thanks for the help guys/gals
