How many miles can you get out of a drive belt ?

Belt wear
A friend of mine got a hole from a rock at 51,000 miles on his Ultra....belt never failed when he traded it in at 75K. I wish I knew how many miles are on my belt...bike has 66K on it but engine was factory rebuilt 11K ago. Have no clue if belt was replaced or not. Can't tell by looking.(Just bought it this past fall).

I was doing an inspection prior to a long run and found a sharp rock had embedded itself into my belt and pushed a hole completely through it. I pried the rock out with a screwdriver, hit the outside of the belt with a rubber mallet against the pulley to help push the protusion back into shape.
I'm still running on the same belt, no issues at all.

I had an 85 EG and in 3 years I put 66,000+ on it. And right at every 18,000+/- miles the belt would break. I've been told the belts are a different compound now but I still don't trust them. I went to shaft drive bikes and just recently tried Harley again. And of course now I'm on a gravel road so I have no hopes of getting even that kind of mileage. We shall see.
