How many miles can you get out of a drive belt ?

Indeed. I love working on my bike. Everything is right there. Not much to remove before you get to any problem

150K so far, on my original from 1992.
But don't sweat it, the new ones are supposed to be better.
It's not hard to check them for wear. Look for cuts, holes, and run your fingers along the teeth in both directions to see if any of them are cut.

Took my Ultra in for service last year with about 9,000 miles on it. After the service, the dealer took it for a test ride and the belt broke. Funny thing is, they are the ones that adjusted it the last time I was in for service before that. It took almost two weeks to get a new belt in and replaced. I was NOT happy.

Its a lot of work to do if you're doing it yourself, but check out how much the dealer will charge ya for it. That's a lot of chrome parts.

Seen some with 150k+ on 'em. Haven't seen 200k+ yet, but have heard about them lasting well past that. I've also seen 'em come in broken with less than 20k or less. Usually a rock or something else got in between the belt and pulley on those.

75K until the 09's then I think they are good for 100K. If HD would put an idler pulley like Buell did and HD copied for the XR1200, they would eat and spit out stones without any damage.
