Default Heat wrap opinions...

Anyone who has past experience with wrapping their pipes, please help me choose a good product. I have never wrapped pipes before, so I would like suggestions for a quality product.

Thanks!

I see no one's answering up. Okay. My last bike I used exhaust wrap from Thermotec. It had copper wire woven throughout it (at least it looked like copper...can't recall as it has been many years). It was "tan/white". Could not paint it (tried). I used high temp exhaust paint, but it would not take to the wrap.

However, you can buy it in black I am sure. Really cut down on heat emitting from the pipes. Can't say I got any performance boost though.

There are numerous companies that sell the wrap now. I was looking for wrap that was used in the aviation industry. Not too bad for price.

TIP: Wetting down the wrap prior to me wrapping the exhaust didn't work with the Thermotec. The best way to get it tight is to clamp (hose clamp) the start wrap and then pull tightly as you wrap. Do not overlap the previous wrap by more than 1/4 in IF you want to put your heat shields on over the pipe.

Hope this helps.

And to add to what 711 said, wear long a long sleeve shirt when wrapping your pipes. It'll save you from picken the fiberglass out of your arms, later. I bought my heat wrap from a local speed shop and it came in white or black.Good luck, let us know what happens.

No matter what you do it won't stay black. Make sure you get enough, it takes more than you think.

True, black will just turn light grey, get plenty and yes, wear a shirt and gloves. Also soak the wrap in water and wrap them wet and when you first start the bike do it outside, it will really smoke and stink for a while.
