2010 Riding Season - What are we in for..
#11
The local TV stations here in K.C. have stated that this has been the worst weather to occur in this area in the last 25 years. I tend to agree, only I think that it has been longer than that! I drive on the interstates, highways, and roads here on a daily basis with a 4X4, and I thank the good lord I do. I can tell anyone here if you want to see some GNARLY-*** pavement, just take a trip through the good ol' midwest. With todays economy and the way in which most all municipalities and states have cut costs down to below the bone-line I believe we're in for a interesting ridin season at first. I think I'll take out my 2 stroke MXer first to ply the asphalt. Well at the very least the road crews will have a guaranteed job throughout the year repairing the potholes.

Now with this big quake in Chile that they say screwed up the tilt of the earth and sent us either back in time or forward, I'm not sure which, we probably are going to be colder longer or hotter..either one will deteriorate the roads even more.. or the weather may be more pleasant so we can ride more on bad roads.. don't you just love it..

The roads in north central Ohio are really torn up. This is the worst that I remember them being in a while. I am not sure if the mild winter combined with all the salt did them in or what. There is a ton of loose gravel that has come out of the holes and is all over the place as well. They are already trying to cold patch some of them but they have there work cut out for them for sure.

I've never seen it this bad. Couple nights ago, went back roads with a lady to Princeton for dinner she warned me that one intersection could launch you, but didn't realize why I was crawling through the next - told her it was 5 feet of holes.
I miss my 4x4. Went to a sport sedan to save gas, but I think it might cost me a tire or 3....

I ride in NYCity, and the holes get patched with some sort of play dough. The patch is good for about 50 cars, and then disintegrates into hundreds of pieces of road missiles.
Pot holes, and Steel road plates are the norm here. Over the years I have gotten used to dodging the holes while dodging the taxi cabs. Riding in NYCity can be a full contact sport at times.
Be careful out there.

Every morning all water on the road is frozen till the sun comes out. It can be a crazy ride in the mornings. The pot holes is like riding a dirt bike gas it up and go. The ones that slow down for every pot hole is go to get hurt.
