Sidemount license plates & state laws?

Yeah, I will NEVER go to my local DMV for clarification!! Did that with a 74 Dodge Powerwagon mud truck that I had replaced the doors on. On those trucks the VIN tag was on the inside of the drivers door and when I swapped doors, I changed VIN's. Well being the responsible citizen I drilled out the VIN tags from the OLD door and carried them (rather than the whole door) into the DMV to explain my dilemma. IF I were to get pulled over AFTER the door swap my registration VIN would not have matched the vehicle. You should have seen the DMV clerk's eyes PPO OUT when I placed those VIN tags down on the counter.......Long story short, my vehicle was impounded by the troopers and 2 hours later we came to an agreement. I ALMOST lost my truck that day!@! NEVER AGAIN.
I will ride like I have always ridden and SHOULD never have a problem.....We will see.

building my bobber, I tried to put a horizontal plate mount on there but didn't like the way it looked at all. changed to a vertical mount and will take my chances. Hell, I rode around for years with a paper copy of my tag for my license plate because MD tags were oversized and would not fit in aftermarket plate frames... never had a problem with that, not anticipating any problem with this either.
