How good was your credit?
When you bought your bike? Did you go thru HD financing or your own bank... My credit isnt top notch, but its not bottom of the barrel either, I guess around 650-ish or so, But I am looking to put about 4 or 5k down too... Think Ill be alright ?

Credit crunch is upon us these days. The only way you will really know where you stand is to apply. Probably can get better rate locally, but try both and see what happens. I would apply on line so if you do get turned down you wont get your hopes up by seeing the bike you really want. Then some dealers may and try to get you a loan with an extremely high rate. 5k down will help, not only decision wise, but will help from being upside down on your loan (assuming you don't pay way over what the bike is worth). Good luck.

I took some pretty gigantic hits last year, got laid off twice and had some huge medical bills due to a motorcycle accident and having to get my gallbladder removed. Due to all of this I almost lost my house and my credit went straight to the crapper. Even with a 530 credit score I was still able to finance through HD (although my interest rate is crazy) I plan to refinance next year after I have finished playing off all my medical crap and fixing my credit.

Greetings,
I would think a local bank/credit union would take a stab at it as long as you don't have any repo's on your report. It doesn't cost anything to stop by one of the local banks/credit unions and find out.

avg. was around 760 when i bought my house...and that was the ONLY reasont they gave me the mortgage! It's a shame people that are irresponsible with their money ruin it for everyone else! I re-finance through my credit union for 5.5%

Get your financing arranged before you buy at your bank, credit union, or wherever you find the best deal. When you buy the bike they will want to finance it of course, but now you have something they have to beat to get it. If the bank is cheaper go with it, if HD is cheaper go with them.
