I haven't figured prices out yet. I was at a dealer in Delaware last spring & they had a night train that was mostly stock, a year older than mine & had higher milage for a price that was crazy. I told a salesman that they could have my bike for that price & I would walk home. Last time I looked they still had it in the used bike inventory nearly a year later

The trouble is nobody wants to pay much for take off items either.Best bet is to leave them as close to stock as you can and ride the heck out of them.

When I was shopping for my WG, you could readily buy a used one for $10,000. I found one locally and the guy wanted $13,000 for it. I offered him $10,000 for it. he told me it was worth $15,000, but he had offered it to me at a deal price of $13,000.

A few days after I last talked to him, I bought the WG in my sig pic on eBay for $9,800.

The guy with the $15,000 WG called me regularly over the next year, asking me to buy his bike for $11,000 - in spite of the fact I had told him I had already bought a WG the first time he called.

I had a similar experience late last year on a 2003 Valkyrie standard. The bike was immaculate, low mileage, and he wanted about $4k over what it was realistically worth. I knew I wasn't paying that kind of money (though I love Valkyries, and always will)...and started looking at Super Glides (always liked the Dyna lines too). The used Super Glide owners thought they were going to recover their their 'new bike' cost, plus all the accessorie's cost. Their expectations were outrageous.

Of course they bought the bikes when the prices were high, and spent a fortune on accessories or custom paint....the problem with accessories is that they are seldom the same accessories or paint somebody else would want on the bike....so they essentially have little real value. Why would I want a beautiful rendering of Darth Vader (or some such thing) on my bike?

To make a short story long, I bought a new 2010 Super Glide for a very reasonable price...and kept getting emails from the guy who desperately wanted to sell his Valkyrie....and still wasn't lowering his price. It ain't a seller's market.

Or put your 'take-off' items back on when you go to sell.
Then play the ebay game for your add-ons.

I had a friend of a friend stop over one day with his take-off pipes and some other stuff in his trunk. He knew I played with ebay. Told me I can have half of whatever I get for ebaying his stuff.
I talked my way out of that one! LOL
I would have been lucky to end up with $10 after shipping and all. LOL Take off stuff is indeed a low demand item.

Used add-ons stand a chance of getting some extra cash.

Customizing and adding accessories to your bike is fine as long as you come to the understanding that you are throwing your money down the drain. Add the accessories you want because you like them, not because you think it will make the bike more valuable. When I was in the market for a bike it seemed that every bike out there was covered in all kinds of chrome crap and bling that I personally do not like, and every guy selling it wanted to recoup his "20K investment in chrome". Personally I will not ever pay anything extra for your accessories because the minute I get home all that stuff is getting ripped off and thrown in the trash, then I'm out spending money to replace everything I had to throw away off the bike I just bought.

I bought this bike last summer just how it sits here.

06 fatboy 10k miles 12,500 from a dealer. Paint and chrome are mint. Keep looking around.
