I heat cycle mine 20 minutes then off for an hour for the first 100-200 miles. Oil changes at 100,500,1000, 2500. Nothing over 3000 rpm for the first 100 miles.
I use syn3 to break in the engine because it is a group III synthetic and run my break in to 2000 miles. Then I go with regular synthetics like Mobil1 Vtwin then switch to Redline at 4-5000 miles.

Switch trans & primary to synthetics at 500

Break in? C'mon!

Living 65 miles from the dealer (INDY North), only thing i wouldn't do was get on the Superslab.. that way I didn't have to maintain a steady speed for an hr..
Going through town I could help seat the rings by staying in 2-3 and use the motor for accelerating and braking several time in the first 50 miles...

heres an article I've saved for this question from S&S
http://www.steelthundercc.com/enginebreakin.html

Here's another one that was good reading,, note the warning at the top though....

U just have to do what U feel is right...after all this input...

Most exotic, high end expensive cars and motorcycles like the CVOs come standard with Synthetic. There's a reason. Many who don't like Syn don't like the price... in fact I don't but I use it in everything including my ATV.

Try reading the owners manual. All the secrets are in there.

As a motor runs and you put miles on it, it can't help but wear in. And with millions of bikes in the world that have been broken in every which way you can imagine, it seems the owners are the only part which need to be lulled into thinking there's a proper and improper way to do it. I've ridden with guys that ride aggressive and ones that ride like old ladys, and theyr'e bikes all run fine. So like I said it matters more to the owner then the motor hows its "broken in".,,
For one, I know for a FACT that standard oil works well for a break in, so why change? . Second, factory bikes (as I mentioned) are pre-run under load to seat the rings. Third, Synthetic will retard the heat build up that is neccessary for proper ring seating. Forth, Synthetic is costly, do you really want to spend that sort of $$$ only to dump it 4 or 5 times before the 1K mark?

It's your $$$ and not telling anyone what to do. Only suggesting an alternative method for break in (which works well btw). Most folks dont have the mechanical savvy for the fast break in method, but ask any good performance motor man, car or bike and I am sure they will tell you same thing.

How would you suggest seating the rings? Have you ever used Synthetic for break in?
I'm all ears.

YEAH c'mon, Canuck, !!!!!!

Evidentally, NOT everyone follows along.

BUT, in Nytryder's defense, NS, they do STILL print 'em.
I don't recall seeing "Break-In" in the old manuals, tho. Guess they figured IF you bought one, you were schmott enuff to know 'how'. OR maybe because they were rather 'loose' tolerances, NO BREAK IN required.
