Any lane splitters here?

I had some 16" gimps on my Softail when I was in California last. We were splitting traffic and I tagged someone's mirror with my elbow. Not bad, just enough to hit my funny bone and make my hand go numb. I prefer to keep it tight and tucked.

Nothing like a guy threatening to clean you out with his truck to get the hairs raised.
Okay, no more tough guy ****, boys. Let's keep it on track.
Anyone have any special techniques for splitting, or how about some stories?

I live in the country, so there is not much need to lane split. I don't know if it is legal here in Louisiana, but if I were stuck in a mess on one of our "over the swamp" highway corridors, I would certainly do it as carefully and courteously as possible. I have taken a good slide down the asphalt, so I'm gonna claim "chicken" when it comes to high speed lane splitting.

No need to split where I live and it is illegal.....I would sure do it in Cali but probably not at high speed.....when I am stopped at a red light I do make sure I am positioned right to go between the cars in front in case some cager idiot comes up behind me not looking....I ain't taking it in the rear from a cager if I can help it.....

Pulling up between cars at a red is a really smart idea. Too many good folks getting cleaned out because some cager's not paying attention.
Sometimes the best defensive riding is to go about it aggressively IMFO.
