still looking for the 'one'
Hi all. just want to say thank you for all the great feed back from my previous questions.
My hubby and I are still looking. Hoping to find that right one. We're going to try to look at some more this weekend. Have a few questions about some.
What can you tell me about:
- 1986 FXRD Evo S&S, has 38K miles, never dropped, 1340 Evo engine
- 1996 FLHRI Road King, 36K, miles, 1340cc, 2 cylinder, 4 stroke - needs some work, but is in awesome bike, in good running condition.
There's also a Custom that looks interesting but it's custom so i can't really ask about that.
Do either of these bikes need new front end rebuilds? (I'm talking style of bike in general). Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Niki

I know a bit about them and do my own wrenching but far from an expert, unless you're getting them for a steal you should really find a techie or somebody who knows their stuff to check out the bikes with you. There are just too many things to convey in words to be able to help on line, whereas a harley guy would know what to look, listen and check for.
hope this helps

As with any vehicle, I'd be as much interested in the maintenance records of them as anything. the looks of one will tell somewhat of how one has taken care of her..

The information you gave is pretty vague. How well were they taken care of? You are talking about a 24 and a 14 year old bike. The mileage sounds too low for bikes that old. Find a good independent bike shop in your area and talk to them about what they can do to help.Bikes that old are most likely in need of maintenance.Good luck with your search-hope you find the one.

Don't be afraid of anything used as long as it looks well taken care of.Most importantly would be the person your considering buying from.If they know very little about the bike,or are unable to give you a good history,be wary.If you have any concerns about one that you might want, would be a good idea to have an experienced person look it over.Good Luck

Niki;
I obviously can't speak as to the condition of the bikes listed but I can offer an opinion. The 86 fxr's and up reguardless of the last letter such as "d" are probably the best machines Harley ever made. The 82 to 85's were excellent as well but their engines were a little more difficult for certain mods. If you find a good example you'll like what you get. The only reason the fxr's were discontinued was the cost of building them. You know, bottom line. Here's pic's of my '87, '85.

That's Jackie McCue (sp?) Harley's 1987 Ms Harley. I think she was the last.

Thanks for all the replies. We didn't have a chance to make it out this last weekend after all. Feeling a bit under the weather. I'll keep y'all updated on if we find one. I really do appreciate the feed back. This site is great!
Take care,
