Stuff like that sucks! Was riding back in a group back to Texas from Kansas City, well this was on my old bagger, i had my music going, well all of the sudden the music stopped and i felt something bounce off my leg and go flying by. Unfortunatly i had mounted a tool bag right above the cd player so i couldnt tell what had happened. The next stop i pull over and take a look. It was the face plate on my cd player! Its hard to find a cd player that is not detachable face nowdays! i had to superglue the next faceplate on!

Strange things happen.
I bought a new '72 Bonneville in 1973. The following spring (1974) I was close to home and the clutch cable let go. There was asdn indy shop 1/4 mile from my house so I puhed it there and he replaced the cable.
Fast forward to 2006. Found a buyer for the bike over the winter. He took a test ride, bike ran gret, so he gave me a hefty deposit and I agreed to store it in my shed until Spring.
Come April I took it out of the shed for a test ride and fluid change before ther final sale.
Got about 100 yards and heard a God-awful sound coming from the transmission area. A clunk that repeated in cycles that matched the rotation of rear wheel.
I loaded the bike in my truck and brought it a Triumph dealer . Got a call the next day that the 5th gear was missing a tooth. Went to pick it up a couple days later and the mechanic showed me the 5th gear, broken tooth, and the ball end of a clutch cable.
Looks like ther ball end of the original broken clutch was just sitting there from 1974 to 2006 until it decided to move and cause a problem.
Wierd stuff happens.

Not sure how practicle it would be, but after reading the post and replies, I'd attach a some type of lanyard to that damn lighter so that if it does fall, it comes just short of the primary and foot controls. Still long enough to light your smoking materials, but enough to prevent it from doing any harm if it does get away from you.

That's exactly why I did this to my 05
