Quiet Baffles for Vance & Hines Big Radius
#21
quoteRocker C, how did those Smartpartz baffles work out for you on the VH Big Radius pipes? Took my NT out for a run this afternoon. Sure would like to quieten things down and not lose the look of my Big Radius 2 into 2 pipes.

It is noticeably quieter at lower throttle and idle. They still command respect at when you want them too……..

According to my direct contact with bct I bought a set of qq and they also suggested leaving about 6 " of old baffle - will reduce overall sound by about 20/25% but also will make it a much deeper throated sound as well

I think it did give a little better performance and it also got rid of all deceleration popping.

How where they to install... seemed to be simple enough?
Did you have any rejetting to do?
Nice ride BTW!

I just did a 103 upgrade with cams too. It is back to loud so I'm glad I have the baffles in.

Not trying to start an argument here or anything, but the Doppler effect would not apply to the rider of the bike, only the bystanders on the side of the road as the bike passes by. Since the source of sound is neither approaching or receding from the riders perspective the level of sound does not change with speed. You would have to be going supersonic to leave the sound "behind" and to not here it.
By the way I am an airplane pilot and I have lost a significant amount of hearing. Most every airplane I have ever flown is quieter than any V Twin on the road, and much faster than most motorbikes could ever hope to go, and the Doppler effect hasn't helped me one bit!

This is more than likely the effects of wind buffeting on the audio canals than "Loud Pipes". Just hit the "Google" button and type in Doppler Shift and then you might understand that loud pipes have nothing to do with the effect that you are describing. If it did, everyone that has ever flown in an airplane from Kittyhawk to the present day would now be totally deaf.
