If you can make it from Manchester NH to Portland Maine in an hour you are doing well!

Hello:

The Harley dealer in Augusta, Maine http://www.northcountryhd.com/rentals.htm rents harleys. It is about 45 mins. north of Portland, and an easy drive on I-295. Another option in Maine is Central Maine HD in Hermon, Maine, which is next to Bangor. That is a 2-hour drive north of Portland. You do have the option of taking a non-stop bus from Portland to Bangor that is pretty cheap and comfortable. Or, if you can change your itinerary, you can easily fly into Bangor. It may cost you an extra $100 or so vs. flying into Portland, but the Bangor airport does have decent regional jet service to Boston and other East coast hubs. One advantage to Bangor is that it is still close to the coast, including Bar Harbor and the upper coast of Maine (what we call Downeast). There is some beautiful riding there on good roads with relatively little traffic once you are out of town.

Good luck.
